Importing from DanceStudio-Pro

A step-by-step walkthrough of the DanceStudio-Pro export process.

DanceStudio-Pro is the studio management system many ShowSort customers use. Here's exactly how to get a clean export out of it.

Step 1: Open the Recital Wizard

  1. Log in to DanceStudio-Pro
  2. Go to More β†’ Tickets & Events
  3. Open (or create) your event
  4. Click Recital Wizard

Step 2: Set Up Your Act List

Use the wizard's act configuration to add the classes you want in the recital. This is where you control which classes are participating β€” anything you exclude here won't be in your export.

Step 3: Generate the Playbook

Click 4: Generate the playbook. This builds the underlying performer/routine data.

Step 4: Download the Excel Program List

Click More Actions β†’ Download Excel Program List. This saves a file called recital.csv to your computer.

Despite the "Excel" name, the download is actually a CSV file. ShowSort handles either format just fine.

Step 5: Upload to ShowSort

Head to Create a Show and upload your recital.csv. ShowSort will parse it and show you a preview.

Common DanceStudio-Pro Gotchas

  • Names with commas: If a routine or performer name contains a comma, DanceStudio-Pro sometimes outputs a malformed CSV row. You'll see weird splits in the preview.
  • Apostrophes or quotation marks: Same story β€” special characters can confuse the export.
  • Duplicate-looking entries: If a performer takes a class twice (e.g., Tuesday and Thursday sections of the same class), they might appear with subtly different names.

If anything looks off, fix it in your DanceStudio-Pro data and re-export, or open the recital.csv in Excel/Google Sheets and clean it up manually before uploading.
